What Snow? The Show Must Go On!
 This year’s Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt, always held in Parfet Park on the corner of 10th St. and Washington in downtown Golden, was one for the ages! On reaching the park in the early hours of the Saturday before Easter as usual, the hardy set-up crew was faced with about 5” of snow covering the intended site. The word was sent out to those yet on the way, to gather their shovels and bring them to the park hastily to . . shovel grass! Such was the scene at Parfet Park as volunteers, young and old, came to help set up for one of the most iconic annual spring events in Golden, CO. Undeterred and without complaint, the dedicated Kiwanians and fellow volunteers, proceeded to shovel three separate areas to accommodate different age groups, thus preventing the hunt from becoming a full contact sport. The comradery and commitment to the task provided the energy to make quick work of the challenge.
After spreading thousands of eggs, the signal was given at 10am sharp, without delay, to commence the Easter Egg Hunt.  By 10:05, the park was picked clean by hundreds of excited and happy kids ready to go home with their spoils. 
The Kiwanis Parfet Park Easter Egg Hunt has been a cherished tradition in downtown Golden, CO for many years, dating back to the early 1900’s. One attendee at this year’s event remarked that he has fond memories of coming to it with his family for at least 40 years, all the way from Broomfield. When asked why he came all that way, he said because back in the day it was known as THE place to be! I guess it still is!
Once again, the Kiwanis Club of Golden was happy to serve our community as host to this cherished annual event that draws families from throughout the area to celebrate every spring. Thanks to my dedicated fellow Kiwanians and other willing participants, always ready to do whatever it takes to make this beloved tradition a success. Join us next year . . . won’t you? The Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt is always held the Saturday before Easter, early risers welcome, but maybe . . . bring a shovel, just in case! See you next year!
